Studio Installation

In addition to the standard studio lines, a special consideration was made for a grand piano positioned in the foyer of the building. Understanding that Universal Music South Africa might want to capture the beautiful tones of the piano in that unique acoustic environment, we also ran dedicated lines from the foyer to the patch bay. This allowed the piano to be recorded cleanly and professionally, even outside the traditional studio space—offering artists and producers even more creative possibilities.

Planning for the Future: How Universal Music South Africa Benefited from Detailed Documentation

One of the most critical yet often overlooked elements in any studio installation is documentation. For Universal Music South Africa, the schematics, drawings, and connection layouts we developed during the initial setup would later prove to be invaluable.

When Universal Music decided to relocate their studio operations to a new facility, these detailed documents made the process of decommissioning and reinstalling the system far more manageable. Every cable, patch bay, and connector was labeled and mapped in a way that allowed for efficient transport and accurate reassembly.

What could have been a complicated and time-consuming move became a far more streamlined task thanks to the planning and attention to detail that went into the original installation. The transition from one location to another didn’t involve starting from scratch but rather adapting an already optimized system to a new environment.

A Partnership Built on Precision and Communication

The success of the Universal Music South Africa studio installation was not just a result of technical skills but of effective collaboration. The dialogue between Johannesburg and London was constant and precise, with no detail too small to clarify. From the type of solder used on connectors to the routing of each line, everything was done to the highest possible standard.

Moreover, working alongside a trusted industry partner like Hi-Tech Audio ensured that the installation was supported by high-quality components and aligned with international best practices.

Raising the Bar for Studio Installations in South Africa

This project for Universal Music South Africa remains a benchmark example of how global standards can be executed with local expertise. With world-class cabling, robust connectivity, and strategic planning, the facility was built to empower artists, producers, and engineers to do their best creative work—both at the original location and in its future home.

Crafting a Professional Studio for Universal Music South Africa in Rosebank

When Universal Music South Africa set up its new production and recording facility in the vibrant business hub of Rosebank, Johannesburg, the company knew it had to ensure the installation met global standards. The creative and technical vision of Universal Music required seamless integration of recording, production, and mixing infrastructure—and that meant bringing in the right team to execute the complex cabling and connectivity. Techmin was approached by Kevin Manas from Hi-Tech Audio to handle this critical part of the installation.

The project was unique in that it involved significant coordination between two continents. While the physical work took place in Johannesburg, much of the technical direction came from the team based in the United Kingdom. This required consistent communication across time zones to finalize everything—from the connectors to be used, the types of cables, and the specifications of the patch bays. Only once the technical team in London was satisfied did the green light come through, and work officially began.

Seamless Integration: A Tailored Audio Infrastructure for Universal Music South Africa

With the go-ahead from London, we embarked on the installation with one clear objective: to deliver flawless connectivity between all the equipment in the facility. The setup included patch bays that formed the central point for routing all audio signals in and out of the live rooms and control rooms. These patch bays were essential not only for flexibility but also for minimizing latency and preserving audio fidelity across the entire system.

One of the standout features of this installation was the inclusion of two independent sets of audio lines running from the live room. This allowed engineers and producers the flexibility to isolate instruments or vocals on separate feeds, reducing crosstalk and offering greater control during recording sessions.
