Connectivity: Access Point Installation

In the age where everything is digital, even our modern school boards, there is a greater requirement for connectivity. All the boards in the classes need wireless connectivity on the network. In this light, we were commissioned to install 21 reliable access points throughout The Lighthouse Christian School, a new school to open in 2025.

Each class has its own Ubiquity access point, all coming together in a Ubiquity PoE managed switch.  The admin office, kitchen and common areas were provided with Wi-Fi coverage The whole network is on CAT6e cabling and connected to the main server room on a 50m fiberoptic cable. In this way the whole network in the school can be monitored off-site by the facility’s IT service provider.

As an existing facility concerted into a school, and cabling replacing existing cables, we ran into a few interesting challenges. Working in conjunction with building contractors who don’t necessarily understand the delicacy of network cables, we had to at one point replace cables, as they were either damaged or cut but contractors. But we were able to work together as a team working together toward a common goal.
