Studio Installation

Building from the Ground Up: Studio Success with Good Noise Productions

Every audio installation presents its own set of challenges and learning experiences, but this particular project with Good Noise Productions, building the Coke Studio was especially meaningful—it marked the first time I had full responsibility for managing and constructing acoustic panels from scratch. It wasn’t just about technical wiring or routing signal lines; it was a comprehensive studio installation that required thoughtful planning, problem-solving, and hands-on construction.

The final result was nothing short of remarkable. This installation, done in partnership with Music Mate Solutions, blended technical proficiency with creative problem-solving, helping Good Noise Production create a studio space that is both highly functional and acoustically refined.

Acoustic Craftsmanship: Good Noise Production’s Unique Studio Needs

At the core of this installation was a need for superior acoustic performance. Working with Good Noise Production meant meeting the high standards of an experienced production team that values sound clarity, isolation, and aesthetic detail. In a space like Coke Studio, where top-tier artists come to record, acoustics can make or break a session.

Instead of relying on off-the-shelf solutions, I took on the task of designing and building custom acoustic panels specifically tailored to the room’s layout and sonic requirements. This included selecting appropriate materials for sound absorption and diffusion, designing panel placement based on reflection points, and constructing frames and mounting hardware by hand.

The acoustic treatment extended across both the live room and the control room, ensuring that the captured sound would be clean, while the playback and mixing environment would be neutral and reliable. This aspect of the project helped create a studio space that inspires confidence for both engineers and performers alike.

Overcoming Structural Challenges with Good Noise Production

Beyond the acoustic panels and cable routing, the project demanded more than just conventional studio setup tasks. One major challenge involved addressing two existing windows that opened into an alley behind the studio. These windows were a clear acoustic vulnerability—letting in both sound and environmental distractions from the outside world.

To transform the room into a fully controlled studio environment, we had to completely close off and soundproof the windows. This was not a quick fix. It required the removal of the existing glass, building sealed enclosures, and layering materials to achieve proper sound isolation. Once sealed, these wall sections were then matched visually to the rest of the studio to maintain a consistent, polished look.

The sealing of the windows played a critical role in reducing ambient noise, eliminating reflections, and helping the newly installed acoustic panels perform at their best. Together, these elements elevated the studio into a true creative sanctuary—an escape from external noise and distractions, perfectly suited for audio production at a professional level.

Cabling, Signal Flow, and Studio Interconnectivity

Of course, no studio installation would be complete without detailed attention to connectivity. In the case of Good Noise Production, this meant laying out and routing all necessary cables between the live room and the control room. Mic lines, instrument inputs, monitor sends, and headphone returns were all neatly routed through designated trunking and cable paths, ensuring minimal interference and maximum reliability.

The goal was to give the engineer in the control room complete confidence in the studio’s signal flow. Each connection was tested, labeled, and logically arranged to simplify workflow and ensure fast session setup. In a space like Coke Studio, where fast-paced sessions and high-profile clients are the norm, reliable cabling is not just a convenience—it’s a necessity.

A Milestone Project with Music Mate Solutions

This collaboration with Music Mate Solutions and Good Noise Production not only marked a milestone in terms of acoustic panel construction and system installation but also demonstrated the importance of adaptability and collaboration in studio design. Working closely with the client allowed for ongoing feedback, adjustments, and creative decisions that ultimately enhanced the end result.

What began as a standard studio installation became a deeply rewarding journey in both personal growth and professional craftsmanship. From structural changes to custom acoustics, the project pushed boundaries—and set a high bar for all future installations.
