Expanding Our Partnership with SAE Institute: New Campus Integration in Cape Town

Following our previous successful collaborations with both Johannesburg-based SAE Institute studios, we were proud to be invited once again to support the institution during a major transition: the relocation of its Western Cape campus from Woodstock to the heart of central Cape Town. The scope of this latest project was significant and aligned perfectly with our expertise in professional audio infrastructure.

The brief involved the full cabling and integration of two newly constructed recording studios—one on the upper level of the campus and another on the ground floor. The objective was to ensure these spaces were fully interconnected, technically advanced, and optimized for high-end music production and audio engineering training. SAE Institute is known for producing industry-ready graduates, and it was essential that their new Cape Town campus met the same world-class standards as their other facilities.

This integration required not only technical expertise but a deep understanding of the educational environment and how it differs from commercial studio installations. The systems had to be intuitive, reliable, and flexible enough to support both instruction and real-world production scenarios.

Collaborative Studio Design and Execution

The overall layout and infrastructure of the two studios were conceived by Benjamin Pro Audio, a trusted partner with a strong reputation for designing professional-grade audio environments. Their role in conceptualizing and planning the technical layout was pivotal to ensuring that both studios would be acoustically efficient, logically structured, and ergonomically optimized for students and educators alike.

Once the design phase was complete, Sonor Audio came on board for the construction and installation work. Their team brought the designs to life with precision, ensuring that every detail—from wall paneling to acoustic isolation—was completed to the highest standards. The smooth coordination between our team, Benjamin Pro Audio, and Sonor Audio allowed for a seamless and efficient execution, despite the complexity of the installation.

Future-Proof Cabling Solutions for SAE Institute Cape Town

One of the most critical aspects of this project was ensuring that the cabling and connectivity solutions would stand the test of time. To achieve this, we implemented a future-proof cabling infrastructure using high-grade shielded audio and data cables to minimize signal interference and ensure long-term reliability.

Patch bays were carefully installed in strategic locations throughout both studios to provide maximum routing flexibility. This approach allows instructors and students to configure and reconfigure the systems easily, adapting to different recording, mixing, or mastering scenarios.

We also designed the system with scalability in mind. As audio technology continues to evolve—especially with trends like immersive audio, remote collaboration, and audio-over-IP—the studios can be upgraded without needing a full overhaul. This ensures that SAE Institute Cape Town remains at the cutting edge of training facilities in South Africa.

Strengthening Industry-Standard Training Environments

As one of the premier creative media institutions in the country, SAE Institute plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of audio engineers, producers, and sound designers. The tools, technology, and workflows available to students significantly impact their learning and preparedness for real-world industry demands.

By delivering clear signal flow, intuitive patching systems, and professional-grade connectivity, we helped ensure that students are immersed in a realistic studio environment from day one. The studio layout mirrors what they will encounter in commercial or broadcast studios, which greatly enhances the value of their education.

Dedicated Execution by Our Cape Town Team

While our headquarters are based in Johannesburg, our Cape Town team took the lead on this project and handled it with great professionalism and precision. They were involved in every phase, from early planning and technical design reviews to the final installation and testing of the system.

Their responsibilities included not only audio line routing and patching, but also power distribution, network cabling, and inter-studio synchronization. Special attention was given to ensure each studio could function autonomously while maintaining interoperability, giving the campus both flexibility and cohesion across its audio production curriculum.
