Church InstallationStadtmission Johannesburg gets an audiovsual upgrade
Techmin was recently contracted by Stadtmission Johannesburg to carry out a combination of upgrades and installations in their worship facility. The scope of the project involved reconfiguring some of the church’s existing audio-visual equipment while integrating new technology to enhance the overall functionality and quality of their sound and streaming systems.
Key upgrades to enhance sound coverage and aesthetics
One of the key upgrades involved relocating the speakers. Originally, the church had been using floor-based speaker stands, which were practical for basic use but limited in terms of sound coverage and aesthetics. Speaker stands can be obstructive in a worship environment, often interfering with movement on stage or detracting from the visual appeal of the space. In this project, we opted to wall-mount the speakers at optimal positions for improved audio dispersion. Mounting the speakers on the walls not only helped declutter the stage area but also allowed for a more consistent and evenly distributed sound throughout the worship hall. This enhancement greatly improved the auditory experience for both the congregation and the worship team.
Another major component of the project was the upgrade of the mixing console. The previous setup was based on older, analog technology, which posed limitations in terms of flexibility, signal routing, and modern connectivity.
We replaced it with a state-of-the-art digital mixing console that brought several advantages to the table. With this new digital system, the church now enjoys streamlined management of worship tracks, microphones, and auxiliary audio feeds. The digital mixer allows for faster setup, easier recall of settings, and more precise control over the sound environment—features that are especially beneficial in a dynamic church setting where different service formats, bands, and speakers are common.
In addition to audio upgrades, the visual component of the church’s services received significant attention. One of the most impactful additions was the installation of a dedicated camera system for live streaming. Before this upgrade, Stadltmission Johannesburg had been streaming their services using a basic setup—often a cellphone or a laptop camera placed directly in front of the preacher. While this method was functional, it was quite limited in terms of quality, viewer engagement, and visual variety. The lack of dynamic angles or audience inclusion resulted in a rather static and impersonal viewing experience for online attendees.
The newly installed camera system marked a major step forward in the church’s digital outreach. This professional-grade camera is strategically positioned to capture a wide range of angles within the hall. It not only focuses on the preacher but can also be adjusted to include views of the worship team and the congregation, creating a more immersive and engaging broadcast for online viewers. The inclusion of multiple perspectives helps convey the full atmosphere of the service, making remote participation feel more connected and inclusive.
This transition from a basic single-angle stream to a flexible, multi-angle camera setup has significantly enhanced the quality of Stadltmission’s live broadcasts. It has also opened the door to future expansions, such as integrating additional cameras, switching systems, or streaming directly to various platforms without compromising on audio or video fidelity.
The overall upgrade project has made a noticeable difference to the church’s technical capabilities. It has allowed for greater control, higher quality, and a more professional delivery of services—both in-person and online. These improvements reflect a growing need among churches to blend traditional worship with modern technology in a seamless and meaningful way.
At Techmin, we believe in tailoring each installation to the specific needs of the client. With Stadltmission Johannesburg, it was clear that the goal was not just technical enhancement, but also creating an environment where worship could be experienced clearly and shared widely. We are proud to have played a part in helping them move forward in their mission with confidence, clarity, and connection.
